On Sunday we walked through one of Jesus’ most well-known statements from the cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Breaking the verse apart and putting it back together again, we discovered how Jesus revealed humanity’s greatest and primary need. Jesus’ sacrifice extended forgiveness throughout the sweep of history: past, present, and future. We also looked at examples of how ignorance is not innocence. We must recognize that even when we are unaware, we sin against God and others. We must always be quick to ask for and quick to grant forgiveness.
