Devotion to discipleship may be the most difficult mandate for today’s follower of Jesus. Why? Because discipleship is more than just a part of one’s personal relationship with God. It’s more than an action that takes place at a certain place and time. It’s more than an event to which we invite others. Discipleship, by definition, is life-on-life. It is maturing, training, and growing to be more like Jesus. And most importantly, it is multiplication of one’s faith into the next generation of believers. The call to discipleship is clear throughout the New Testament… as is the cost. Today we examined the call for all believers to be involved in obedience to the Great Commission, including the rewards and promises given to those who make discipleship a priority.
The Lord is My Shepherd
What does it mean for the Lord to be our Shepherd? According to David in Psalm 23, it means that we shall never be in want of anything. We will be made to slow down, quiet down, and sit down. Our souls will be restored and whole, like they were designed to be from the beginning. We shall not fear evil or death – no matter what we’re facing. Many of us know the Psalm… Let’s make sure we know the Shepherd.
