Context is Everything: Jeremiah 29:11

It’s always encouraging to read that God knows the plans He has for us and how those plans are for our best, but this week we look at Jeremiah 29:11 and discover that God’s Word to the people of Israel goes much deeper than that. Against their instincts, God commanded Israel to build, marry and multiply, even as they were captive in Babylon. He told them to pray for the peace of Babylon and expect to stay there. The beautiful promise of Jeremiah 29:11 was for the future… for their children’s children. Studying this passage leaves us to ask how much are we committed to the future of the church? Is leaving a lasting and godly legacy as important as the here and now?

Our souls will be restored and whole, like they were designed to be from the beginning. We shall not fear evil or death – no matter what we’re facing. Many of us know the Psalm… Let’s make sure we know the Shepherd.
